Red Hook’s Art Scene: Discover Local Galleries and Festivals

Red Hook has long been a creative hub in Brooklyn, with its industrial waterfront and vibrant community that attracts artists from all over. Each fall, the neighborhood comes alive with one of its most exciting events, Red Hook Open Studios, happening this year on October 11 and 12.

Red Hook Open Studios: October 11–12

Every October, Red Hook transforms into an open-air art walk during Red Hook Open Studios. For two days, artists across the neighborhood welcome visitors inside their creative spaces, giving you a rare chance to see works in progress, ask questions, and connect directly with the makers.

Studios are tucked into industrial lofts, warehouses, and waterfront spaces, so exploring becomes as much about discovering Red Hook itself as it is about the art. The event features a wide range of mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, textiles, and more.

Whether you are a collector, an art enthusiast, or just curious, Red Hook Open Studios offers an up-close look at the creative spirit that defines this corner of Brooklyn.

Local Galleries to Explore Year-Round

Red Hook’s art scene is not limited to one weekend. The neighborhood is home to galleries and collectives that celebrate diverse artistic voices throughout the year:

  • Pioneer Works – A multidisciplinary cultural center housed in a 25,000-square-foot warehouse, Pioneer Works hosts exhibitions, performances, and educational programs that push creative boundaries.
  • Kentler International Drawing Space – Focused on contemporary drawings and works on paper, Kentler has been a cornerstone of Red Hook’s art community since 1990.
  • Look North Gallery – Specializing in Inuit and Indigenous art from the Arctic, Look North brings a unique perspective to Brooklyn, connecting visitors with powerful works that reflect northern traditions and storytelling.
  • The Invisible Dog Art Center – While technically on the border of Red Hook and Carroll Gardens, this space is known for thought-provoking exhibitions and residencies that bring international artists to Brooklyn.
